      Shown as aged 16, abode Tuckermarsh. The above website notes "Large numbers of cholera - related deaths in this area continued well into the 1850s. It was the younger generation who were the most vulnerable" so maybe this was the cause of John's death. Another page on the site notes that an outbreak of cholera hit Beer Ferrers parish in 1849 and spread rapidly, due to a total lack of hygienic sanitation and  the resulting pollution of the drinking water.
