From the age given on the 1861 census she appears to have been born between the death or her father's first wife Grace and his marriage to Thomasin. Could she have been a dau of Thomasin with her 1st husband? - not with Thomasin in the 1841 census. The birth of a Jane Vogwill was reg in Tavistock RD in 1839 - would fit the census age of this one but not with her father in 1841 census (and he was with his father and step-mother it would seem to be the natural place for her to be if she was Grace's dau).
Was Jane dau of John and Thomasin born before they married? There was a Jane Giles born in Tavistock RD in 1840 - but again, where was she at census time? Since Thomasin was alone perhaps with other relations.
Or did John have a 4th wife I have yet to discover?
The Jane Vogwill born in Tav RD in 1839 was in Peter Tavy so probably is the one later shown as a dau of John; aged 1, she was in the household of a 67 year old Richard Crossman. They were in the same house in "Coompark" as Edward and Elizabeth Dodd and their family. Could she have been the dau of e.g. John's sister Elizabeth Vogwill and Richard Crossman and later adopted by John?
