    Occupation Farmer
    • Bartholomew seems to have been the first with the name to farm in Meavy, so I guess it was him whose land the following applied to, though it could have been an older Bartholomew living and / or buried in another parish:
from the indictable offences which were heard at the County Quarter Sessions (DRO ref - Devon QS10/1):
William Mattacott of Sampford Spiney, labourer (I suspect William was Bartholomew's 15 year old brother, though he could have been his father, aged, I guess, about 45 at this time) was brought before the Court in 1776:

No455/114 - 8th November 15 George 3 - For a forcible entry into a messuage or tenement and lands with the appurtenances called Treby Parks in the parish of Meavy and expelling Samuel Light therefrom who was tenant to Bartholomew Mattacott. Traversed Michaelmas 1775. Bill found Easter 1775. Tryed Epiphany 1776 - fined 6d.

I would have felt sorry for Samuel - if it weren't for the seemingly light punishment. One has to wonder whether the Mattacotts had a good reason to wish to be rid of Samuel - maybe he was neglecting the property,
