Family Elizabeth LEY, b. Abt 1818, Totnes, Devon, England
Other Partners: Richard STEPHENS m. 4 Jul 1841Married? Not married or evidence to suggest they didn't marry Notes - At the time of the 1851 census William BELLETT was lodging with Elizabeth Stephens [married name] and her children, Elizabeth's husband being absent. In 1861 he was still there, but for some reason now using his mother's maiden name, TRANT. By 1871 William and Elizabeth were making it clear they were living as man and wife, as, as well as William, Elizabeth and her children were now recorded as 'TRANT', although the marriage registration index (FreeBMD) and the index of PR data transcribed on FMP both lack any sign of a marriage between the two.
* Given the absence of her husband I suspect some or most of her children were those of William BELLETT / TRANT - I might have which were whose wrong. *
