    • Details from marriage certificate (which is in my possession)
The Rev L C Hodge officiated

Auntie Ivy married against the advise of her parents. Though willing to support her once she had decided to ignore their advice, they were not willing to take her back when she subsequently decided she had made a mistake. She stuck with the marriage for 40 years until Uncle Syd died, although it may never have been consumated - there were certainly no children.
      .

My now faint memories of visiting Auntie Ivey and Uncle Syd in Boston and of their visiting us once don't include anything to indicate that they didn't get on. But that this may have persisted is suggested by a story that Uncle Syd left a will leaving Auntie Ivy a shilling. The story goes that she destroyed this will - but  in any case the business supposedly bequeathed elsewhere was in their joint ownership.

Talking of her earlier boyfriends, it seems to me that Auntie Ivy was too interested in the money that her boyfriends had rather than their character. (e.g. she would say with pride "he owned a car" rather than mentioning what she liked or disliked about them).
