Name Richard WHITEHEAD Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1739 - 1739 based on age given in burial record (91 acc to KFHS transcript - CD 19)
Baptised 13 May 1739 St. Katherine’s Church, Knockholt, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 30 Aug 2022)
"Richd son of Tho. & Mary Whitehead was Bapd May the 13th."
** Almost certainly ** this Richard.
Not only is this RIchard a good fit well on age, but my DNA shows matches with Whiteheads in the Knockholt / Shoreham etc. area, and those matches have a good no. of shared matches with those descended from this Richard and his wife. All the Knockholt matches seem likely to be descended from one of two brothers of Richard, sonof Thomas and Mary.
I also seem to have a match with a descendant of an illegitimate daughter of Richard, which if true would add futher evidence. (I think it likely to be true, but have yet to see the evidence or even to learn the source).
Gender Male Witness 12 Jan 1766 St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Stockbury, Kent, England At the wedding of Richard Jackson to Sarah Terry - Richard along with John Kerby was a witness at the marriage of bachelor Richard Jackson to spinster Sarah Terry, who married by Banns and were both 'of this Parish' at the time of the wedding.
All four made their mark, even though John Kerby was probably Parish Clerk, as he was a witness at most weddings in Stockbury at this time (possibly he could read but not write).
There is no obvious link of bride or groom to Richard Whitehead. Maybe he had simply become friends after moving to the area, or possibly there was a link that led him to move to the parish.
Died Sep 1830 Stockbury, Kent, England - (assumed from burial)
Buried 9 Sep 1830 St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Stockbury, Kent, England [1] - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 1 Sep 2022)
Siblings 5 brothers and 3 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch Thomas WHITEHEAD, b. Est 1677, bur. 28 Aug 1732, St. Katherine’s Church, Knockholt, Kent, England (Age ~ 55 years) (Grandfather)
Mary BARTON, bur. 12 May 1762, St. Katherine’s Church, Knockholt, Kent, England (Mother)Notes - (Research):Although Richard was "of this parish" when he married in Stockbury in 1776, there is no sign of any other Whiteheads in Stockbury besides Richard at this time. I would guess he found work in Stockbury and moved to the parish for that reason.

'B:Sp' clearly stands for 'Bachelor:Spinster'; I think it says 'B:', but written over something else. probably W. It is just possible it's a W ontop of B.

Other Partners: Thomas ARRATAR m. 28 May 1769Married? Not married or evidence to suggest they didn't marry Notes - Sarah WOOD appears on a number of trees as the daughter of Richard WHITEHEAD and Rachael WOOD; I have no other evidence of a link between Richard and Rachael.
As I have not spotted a tree with any good evidence for this I would not usually add something like this to my tree, but in this case there are two things that make it worth considering:
1. If you find an ancestor with a fairly common name like Sarah WOOD it can be hard to determine the right one. Most baptism PR entries don't name the father of an illegitimate child, so you may well find Sarah's mother or the wrong Sarah. Occasionally the father is named, that maybe the case here (since I have not see a baptism for Sarah) but most likely Richard's name as father was from more in-dept research. So whilst it is not on any tree I have seen it looks like some research might have been done linking Richard to Rachael (the most likely place would seem to be Hayes, Kent poor law records, which I hope to see in the future).
2. The Kentish part (quarter) of my ancestry is mostly from East Kent. Even Stockbury is further West than most. Yet I have two DNA matches who it appears are descended from Sarah WOOD, one by each of her marriages - from her daughter Ann TAPSELL and her son Robert LEWIS.
I share just 11cM with each of these matches, not surprising if the source of the shared DNA is as it seems likely Richard Whitehead; I am half 5th cousin once removed to one match, half 5th cousin to the other.
I do have shared matches to each of these (identified by Ancestry, who only show shared matches who have at least 20cM matching the subject of the match so I am lucky to have them - they wouldn't see me as a match). However, in one case the shared match shares all of my Kentish ancestry, and in the other I have two matches, two siblings, who share half of my Kentish ancestry, so these matches really only more-or-less confirm that the link is via my Kentish great grandfather's side of my tree. I would have hoped that I might have had link(s) that limited it a bit furthur - to the eighth of my Goatham great grandfather's ancestry, i.e. to descendants of other children of Richard and his wife Mary GRIGSBY, or to descendants of his siblings. Even if less than 20cM they could be useful; I may look for links on other sites or ask Ancestry DNA matches who I believe match through Richard or his parents if they too have matches with descendants of Sarah WOOD.

Family 3 Mary GRIGSBY, b. Abt 1756, Hucking, Kent, England , d. 27 Oct 1840, Stockbury, Kent, England (Age ~ 84 years) Banns of marriage From 11 Sep 1774 to 25 Sep 1774 - From register entry (image on FMP, viewed 20 Jul 2019)
Married 20 Feb 1776 St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Stockbury, Kent, England [2] - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 20 Jul 2019)
It is interesting that the marriage took place so long after the banns were read - about 18 months later. (were the banns still valid? - to be checked) Mary was a minor and Richard seems to have been some years older so perhaps her parents did not consent at first. She was still a minor when they did marry, but being about 6 months pregnant at the time perhaps further resistance seemed hopeless! It seems unlikely that they would have been too bothered about her being pregnant and not married - her mother had an illegitimate child and then was about six months pregnant with another when she did marry, and two of Mary's sisters went on to have 3 illegitimate children between them, and one was also about 6 months pregnant at marriage.
