Name James STEED Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 4 Dec 1709 St. Mary’s Church, Charleton, Devon, England [1] Gender Male Buried 6 Jan 1781 St. Martin’s Church, Sherford, Devon, England Siblings 3 brothers and 4 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch Robert STEED, bur. 7 Mar 1684/85, St. Mary’s Church, Charleton, Devon, England (Great Grandfather)
Elizabeth WILLS, bur. 14 Dec 1773, St. Mary’s Church, Charleton, Devon, England (Mother)Notes - (Research):I have no proof that the James who was baptised in Charleton was the one who had a family in South Pool and was buried in Sherford, but given that the name was not common it seems probable
I have now looked through the baptisms in South Pool from 1734, and added a few children not on the South Hams website, which only covers 1750 on (and have corrected a couple of dates extracted from that site).
Steed was not a common name in the South Hams; those there were mostly in the Sherford / Charleton / South Pool area.
A Mary Steed married Richard Dear in Charleton on 20 Nov 1754 (DFHS Woodleigh Deanery CD) - could be James' sister
An Elizabeth Steed marr Wm Fallentien in Charleton on 27 Jan 1777 - could be James dau
