Name Harry Stuckey GAPE Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 5 May 1860 Nutbourne, Westbourne, Sussex, England - There is a Henry GAPE in the 1901 census, in the RN and a leading stoker (1st class) whose occupation and age (40) make him likely to be the Harry Gape who seems to have had a child with Sarah. His birthplace is shown as 'Nutborne, Sussex'. There are two Nutbournes in Sussex, one in Pulborough parish, the other in Westbourne parish. The BMD registration index shows that GAPE is not really a Sussex surname, but there were a number in Westbourne RD, including the birth of a Harry Stuckey GAPE in 1860, so it would appear Harry was born in the Nutbourne in Westbourne parish. (A Henry Charles was born in 1858, but died the same year so he can be excluded).

Family Sarah Ann BEATON, b. 17 Sep 1865, Havant, Hampshire, England , d. Yes, date unknown
Other Partners: Harry KNIGHT m. 25 Dec 1884; BENNETT [ ? ] m. Abt 1899Married Bef 1895 - Sarah Ann is shown as "Annie Gape or Knight" when her son George Harry was admitted to an industrial school in 1898. The 'or Knight' suggests she had not remarried. Looking for a Gape child shows William Arthur, and his birth registration names Harry GAPE - a stoker (like Harry KNIGHT seems to have been). The similarities to Harry KNIGHT made me wonder if Harry GAPE really existed, but a Harry GAPE appears as a rate payer at the same address that William Arthur was born at in the same year, so I think it safe to assume he was for a while Sarah's partner.
The relationship must have ended by 1899, as in that year not only did Sarah gave birth to a son in Sussex, with no father named on the birth registration and a middle name of Bennett, likely suggesting the surname of the father, but Harry married in Scotland.
