    • Robert's seamen's services record shows he joined the navy first in 1876, after his initial nearly 3 years he signed up on 11 Feb 1879 (as far as the navy knew, his 18th birthday) for a period of 10 years, and then on 11 Feb 1889 for another 10 years, finishing 13 Apr 1899. In 1901 he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve, being discharged on his 51st birthday due to 'age'. Age, though, did not stop him from further service for nearly the entire duration of WW1, from 2 Aug 1914 to 6 Nov. 1918, when he was invalided due to having TB in the lungs.

      The 1911 census entry for Elizabeth shows that she and Robert had had three children, two of whom had died. Two are known of from censuses (Florence and Harold Stanley), see birth notes attached to Ivy for why I think she was the third.

      To make matters confusing:
      In the St. Thomas RD of Exeter in Q1 1850 a Selina CASLEY married one Robert William OSBORNE.

      This couple were of similar ages to the Selina and Robert Osborn on this tree, though with different birthplaces, occupation and children. Despite the differences some have muddled these 2 couples.
