  1. 2.  George BROWN was christened on 24 Jan 1750/51 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England (son of George BROWN and Ann STOKOE); was buried on 25 Dec 1801 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Other Events:

    • Occupation: From 1780 to 1801; Mariner
    • Grant of Administration: 11 Dec 1802; To his widow Mary

    Notes:

(Research):There was another George Brown having a family baptised in Earsdon at an overlapping time with this George. Howver, the age at death, given in the burial record which also gives his occupation, shows that this George was a mariner. The other George had a wife Eleanor, and was a coal miner, resident near Crowhall..

Gen.: 3

  1. 4.  George BROWN was christened on 5 Jan 1724/25 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England (son of Francis BROWN and Jane WHEATLEY); was buried on 15 Jun 1794 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Other Events:

    • Occupation: Blacksmith
    • Residence: From 1762 to 1794, Blyth, Earsdon, Northumberland, England

    Notes:

    Birth:
The fact he named a son Josiah suggests he was closely related to the Josiah Brown who had children baptised in Earsdon at a similar time to George. Looking for Josiah's origins, he would appear to have been baptised in Bedlington, the son of Francis and Jane. George named his first daughter Jane and his first son Francis. I think there can be little doubt but that he was the son of Francis and Jane, although I have found no baptism record.

Date estimated from the date of his marriage to be about 1720; taking into account the dates of baptisms of the children of Francis and Jane I think most likely about 1724. Looking for all baptisms in Bedlington of children of couples called Francis and Jane there is a George Bone who fits perfectly.

    Baptised:
From FamilySearch, shows George Bone, son of Francis and Jane Bone.
There was no Bone family with these names in Bedlington; I am sure that Bone must be a mis-recording or mis-transciption of Brown.

    Occupation:
    Recorded in burial entry

    Residence:
Recorded when his son Josiah was baptised, and when George was buried. (He had probably lived there from earlier, perhaps all his life, but the BTs only survive from 1762 and I have not had a chance to see the PRs).

    Buried:
From NBI, transcribed data from PRs
Shows George Brown, abode South Blyth
The BTs (image on FamilySearch) records:
"George Brown Blacksmith of So. Blyth 15 [June]"

George married Ann STOKOE on 19 Jan 1747/48 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. Ann (daughter of Robert STOKOE and Margaret RAND) was christened on 17 Apr 1722 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; was buried on 20 Jun 1793 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. [Family Group Page] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Ann STOKOE was christened on 17 Apr 1722 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England (daughter of Robert STOKOE and Margaret RAND); was buried on 20 Jun 1793 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Notes:

    Buried:
From NBI, transcribed data from PRs
Shows Ann Brown, wife of George, abode South Blyth
The BT entry (image on FamilySearch) shows no more. This burial was the day after that of her grandson George, son of Robert.

    Notes:

    Married:
    From FamilySearch (transcribed data)
Shoes George Brown married Ann Stohoe.
(not clear whether date, shown as 1747, OS or NS - FS has a mixture of the two)

Stohoe only seems to exist as a mis-transcription; I believe the name should be Stokoe. (Also, she is recorded as a Stoko in Boyd's marriage index)

    1. Jane BROWN was christened on 25 Oct 1748 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; and died.

  1. 8.  Francis BROWN was christened on 6 Jun 1697 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England (son of George BROWN); was buried on 21 Feb 1745/46 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Notes:

    Baptised:
From FamilySearch - shows Francis Brown, son of George Brown

    Buried:
    From the NBI
Just shows Francis Brown, and date, no other details. Year shown as 1746 - not clear if OS or NS. Despite many Browns in Earsdon Parish before Francis, he seems to have been the first with this name, and it seems probable the burial is his. (One buried in 1763 was probably a grandson, but neither of his grandsons with the name were born by 1746)

Francis married Jane WHEATLEY on 21 Jul 1719 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. Jane was born est 1698; and died. [Family Group Page] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Jane WHEATLEY was born est 1698; and died.

    Notes:

    Birth:
Estimated from date of marriage and of baptism of her husband.
No baptism of a Jane W(h)eatley (or variants) of Bedlington or Earsdon found, several in the slightly wider area.
In addition, it is possible Jane was reamarrying as a widow and Wheatley not her maiden name.

    Notes:

    Married:
    From FamilySearch
Shows Francis Browne married Jane Wheatley

In addition to the children shown a Francis, son of Francis was baptised in Tynemouth in 1730 and Frances, daughter of Francis, in Earsdon in 1733; I think these were probably both children of a different Francis (the dates would suggest that)

    Children:
    1. Mary BROWN was christened on 17 Nov 1720 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England; and died.
    2. Jane BROWN was christened on 14 Jun 1722 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England; and died.
    3. 4. George BROWN was christened on 5 Jan 1724/25 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England; was buried on 15 Jun 1794 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.
    4. Josiah BROWN was christened on 8 Aug 1726 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England; and died.

    6. Jane BROWN was christened on 27 Jun 1732 in St. Cuthbert’s Church, Bedlington, Northumberland, England; and died.

  3. 10.  Robert STOKOE was born est 1693; and died.

    Notes:

    Buried:
No burial found for Robert or his wife in Earsdon on the NBI. Perhaps they left the Parish - or perhaps there is a gap / illegible pages or entries in the register

Robert married Margaret RAND on 1 Jun 1721 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. Margaret (daughter of Thomas RAND and Elliner DAGLEESE) was christened on 14 Jun 1696 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; and died. [Family Group Page] [Family Chart]

Gen.: 5

  1. 16.  George BROWN was born est 1668; and died.

    Notes:

(Research):Looking for siblings of his son Francis and his marriage the data are confusing. At a glance it appears that there might be 3 siblings. However, the baptisms of two children of George are only 3 months apart so it appears there may have been at least two George's having children baptised in Earsdon at about the same time.
    The 3 possible siblings are:
    Easter - baptised 2 Apr 1694George - baptised 2 Jul 1694
Martin - baptised 20 Mar 1698 (too close to Francis is 1697/8, but probably 1698/9 and gap fine)
There were two marriages of Georges in Earsdon at around this time:
on 5 Jun 1693 George Brown marr Jane Herrison
on 2 May 1697 George Browne marr Ann Horn

The problem with these 2 is that the second is tool late for them to be the 2 George's who had children baptised in 1694, so there may have been 3 fathers callled George (though of course the 1697 marriage could be of a widower). There were a couple of marriages of Georges in the neighbouring parish of Tynemouth earlier in the 1690s, and probably others close enough that they might have involved a George of, or who subsequnetly lived in, Earsdon.

There were Georges baptised in Earsdon in 1668 (son of Martin), 1670 (son of Geo) and 1673 (son of Geo).

Unless the PRs contain more details, it is unlikely it will be possible to disentagle allthe Georges.

    Birth:
Based on date of baptism of son Francis.

    Children:
    1. 8. Francis BROWN was christened on 6 Jun 1697 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; was buried on 21 Feb 1745/46 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

  2. 22.  Thomas RAND was born est 1662; was buried on 12 Jul 1740 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Notes:

    Birth:
Estimated date based on date of marriage
There was a Thomas baptised in Newcastle in 1652. Whilst it is possible that it is this Thomas, it is improbable. A link is made on FS to a 'death' (more likely a burial) on 4 Feb 1659. Even were this to be wrong it is likely that there are other births, either not yet indexed online, possibly in PRs that don't survive or illegible in surviving records, or not recorded because of the interregnum or in registers kept during the interregnum were subsequently destroyed. It would be very unsave to assume the Newcastle Thomas to be this one without other evidence.

Another, perhaps more likely, possibilitiy is a Thomas Rand baptised in Earsdon on 7 Dec 1669. However, this would mean he was only 20 when he married, which would have been unusually young for the period.

    Buried:
If Thomas was buried in Earsdon this was probably his burial.

Thomas married Elliner DAGLEESE on 27 Jul 1690 in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England. Elliner (daughter of Thomas DAGLISH and Mabel BRIDGWELL) was christened on 28 Dec 1666 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; died between 1705 and 1735. [Family Group Page] [Family Chart]

  3. 23.  Elliner DAGLEESE was christened on 28 Dec 1666 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England (daughter of Thomas DAGLISH and Mabel BRIDGWELL); died between 1705 and 1735.

    Notes:

    Buried:
More than one possible burial in Earsdon. It is clear from later entries where there is more than one set of transcribed data that the NBI does not have all the information in the register; it is possible that seeing the register is will be possible to determine which burial was this Elliner)

From the NBI Elinors were buried in Earsdon on 29 Jul 1705 and 16 Feb 1735. Either of them could be this Ellinor.

    Notes:

    Married:
    From FamilySearch
Shows Thomas Rand married Elliner Dagleese

Given the dates their children were baptised it seems probably this was the marriage of the parents of Margaret et al, though the baptisms only name their father.

    Children:
    1. Matthew RAND was christened on 4 Apr 1691 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; and died.
    2. Barbara RAND was christened on 23 Oct 1692 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; and died.
    3. Stephen RAND was christened on 6 Jan 1694/95 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; was buried on 14 Apr 1695 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.
    4. 11. Margaret RAND was christened on 14 Jun 1696 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; and died.

Gen.: 6

  1. 46.  Thomas DAGLISH was born est 1630; was buried on 17 Jun 1680 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England.

    Notes:

    Birth:
    Estimated from date of marriage

    Buried:
There do not appear to have been very many Daglishs in Earsdon so this burial was probably this Thomas.
From the NBI, shown as Thomas Douglish.

Thomas married Mabel BRIDGWELL on 13 Jan 1657/58 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. Mabel was born est 1633. [Family Group Page] [Family Chart]

  2. 47.  Mabel BRIDGWELL was born est 1633.

    Notes:

    Birth:
    estimated from date of marriage

    Died:
I am guessing that it was her husband Thomas who was the one who married in 1669, indicating she had died. There is no record on the NBI for the burial of Mabel Daglish or variants on FMP or searching the CD (3rd edition) in Earsdon before or after 1669.

    Notes:

    Married:
    From FamilySearch
Shows Thomas Dagleish married Mable Bridgwell; year 1658, does not show if OS or NS.
However, it seems to me probable that Mabel Daglish was an uncommon name, but a Mabell Daglish was buried at St. John's, Newcastle on 28 Aug 1661 (from the NBI) - was that the Mabel in this marriage? If so, had Thomas remarried before 1666 or was Elliner the daughter of a different Thomas from the one who married Mabel?

    Children:
    1. 23. Elliner DAGLEESE was christened on 28 Dec 1666 in St. Alban’s Church, Earsdon, Northumberland, England; died between 1705 and 1735.
