Blackawton Churchyard, Blackawton, Devon, England

Notes: Thanks to some students from the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth some years ago, a plan of the churchyard with an index to the names is hanging up at the back of the Church; plot numbers given here are as on that plan.
Mapping the grave locations some years after viewing graves / taking photos I have used the BRNC plan to help me, but cannot be precise - especially given that a number are under the canopy of a tree.

If using to find family graves, be warned it has some errors, especially where a person was given a surname as a 2nd Christian name - these tend to have been mis-understood as double-barrelled surnames and indexed as such. e.g. my ancestor William Bartlett HAMBLING is indexed under 'B' instead of 'H'. Some have been mis-understood as the whole surname, e.g. John Hingston STABB, shown on the gravestone as John Hingston, son of John and Elizabeth Stabb, has been taken to be John HINGSTON.
(In other words, search for middle names shown in some way as a person's surn ame and you should find them).
In a few instances two people has been indexed as one, e.g. the entry 'BURGOINE J M' is for the stone for John and Mary Burgoyne, 'BURGOYNE C E' is for the stone for sisters Ellen and Caroline.
