Name James ROBINSON Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1803 Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England - 38 in 1841 census
Baptised 9 Oct 1803 All Saints’ Church, Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England Gender Male Occupation From 1829 to 1861 Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England Miller - "miller" (1829, 1831),
"journeyman miller" (1833, 1836, 1838, 1842, 1843, 1845, 1851 PR entries)
"labourer for corn merchant" (1851 census);
"labourer for miller & merchant" (1861 census).
In 1826 James was simply described as a labourer - whether for a miller or as an agricultural labourer is not clear.
What is clear is that James' years as a mill work and as an agricultural labourer overlap, although there are more references to him working for a miller than as an ag lab; it may well be that he did seasonal work according to demand, labouring in the fields etc. when there wasn't work at the mill.
Occupation From 1838 to 1877 Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England Ag lab - From 1838 (child's birth cert), 1841 census, 1871 census, 1877 (wife's dth cert) and 1881 census
Died 14 Jul 1884 Ford Street, Thetford, Norfolk, England Cause: Apoplexy 5 days asphyxia (from dth cert.); burial register shows paralysis. - Having found James' burial this clearly seems to be the right death. The burial register shows his abode as Alms Houses (no. 5), Old Buckenham so it seems to be that he died away from home, either having been taken ill while in Thetford or being taken there to be looked after in his final illness. I tend to think he would have been unlikely to have been taken to Thetford after having a stroke, and that it may have occurred when he was in the town, unless it was not initially too severe and it looked like he might live (and need looking after) for a lot longer.
The death was registered by Hannah Jarrold, present at the death, of Ford Street. It's possible Hannah was a grand-daughter of James' though I have found a Hannah Jarrold in the 1881 census in Thetford who clearly wasn't (born 1830).

Details of headstone on transcription on FamilySearch:
"Double headstone. James Robinson who died July 14th 1884. aged 80 years.
Sarah wife of James Robinson who died January [sic] 24th aged 73 years." (no. 134 - is there a plan? - doesn't appear to be on FS, but inclusion of stones simply recorded as 'illegible' implies there is somewhere)

George and John Burlingham were the corn & seed merchants and millers and also lived at Church Green (John at the Manor House)
I guess this is the mill where James was a labourer: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/22813611
Appears to have signed his wife's death cert.
When James was living in one of the Almshouses they were occupied by 6 widowers, 3 widows and one couple. All of the men had been agricultural labourers, and although the plaque on the almshouses says they were for those born in the parish, 2 of the occupants had been born elsewhere (one at New Buckenham, one at Hinderclay in Suffolk).

Family Sarah LUDKIN, b. 1804, Larling, Norfolk, England , d. 24 Feb 1877, Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England (Age 73 years) Married 7 Nov 1825 All Saints’ Church, Old Buckenham, Norfolk, England - From FreeReg
Witness William Turner presumably James' brother-in-law (sister Frances' husband); Mary Ludkin Sarah's sister.
I have a number of DNA matches to descendants of James and Sarah, including with descendants of their son William and daughter Lois. Most if not all are a single segment; the segemnt(s) could be from James or Sarah or some from each. Certainly I have matches with descendants of Sarah's parents who don't descend from James. I haven't noticed matches with James' parents but with a common name like Robinson they would be harder to notice. (My Mum's cousin Bill has a lot more and larger matches with this part of the tree - as being a generation closer to them would be expected, though with the randomness of DNA is not always the case)
