    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 17 Apr 2018)
Shows John Hunt of Feversham Batchelor married Mary Tilly 'otp' Spinster, married by Licence, both signed.
Witnesses John Frederick Johnson and Henry Tilly both also signed.
I think this is probably the marriage of this John. The date is a likely one, giving the birth of their first known child, and the fact he was of Faversham makes it likely, given that that appears to be where they lived after marriage.

(An Eleanor was buried in 1787 described as "wife of John", b c 1737 from age given - had John been widowed and remarried? No, it is clear there were 2 different Johns - the marr of widow John to widower Eleanor was in 1771; the removal of John and Mary and family was in 1778!)
      Other possibilities
Possibly the marriage on 20 Nov 1765 at St Margaret's Church in Canterbury (on FamilySearch website). The 'Mary' of that couple was Mary Cullen. The finding of the settlement certificate suggests, though, they were married by 1762.
More likely the John Hunt who married Mary Fry at Sutton Valence on 30 Dec 1760:
HUNT John Ba of Minster to FRY, Mary Sp otp, by Licence; witnesses: ? and R Norwood (witness to many -probably parish clerk)

The John who married Mary Fry was of Minster. I think this probably means Minster in Sheppey - about 16 miles from Lenham, while the Thanet Minster is 30 miles; also, Minster in Thanet is a small village, Minster in Sheppey was a town with a thriving ship-building industry. Not the most obvious place for a wheelwright to work, but I think it likely John could have found work there. It is quite some distance from Sutton Valence, while the latter is near Lenham, so he probably knew Mary before moving to Minster.

It would be likely that John and Mary would return to Minster to live after the marriage. Are there any children baptised for a John and Mary in Minster? There are several in the 1770s (1770, 1775 and 1777). The 10 year gap between the marriage and the first of these suggest it was probably a different couple, though it could have been that they had other children elsewhere.

Children of this couple from removal order (KFHS index - CD 11) and settlement certificate (CCA catalogue)
