The obvious thing to look for is the marriage of Joan to William Langford.
Looking at the index on FMP (last check 6 Aug 2020) does not show any possible marriage. This includes looking for marriages of a Joan (and variants) to a husband with a name beginning Gu or Wi to allow for Latin variants or unusual English spellings which FMP fails to recognise as variants of William - and in fact looking for all marriages of a Langford (and variants) with a name beginning Wi or Gu, in the period 1621-1641.
The later only shows one marriage of a William Langford, but to an Amy. This was in Tenterden; possibly the same couple who are found in Faversham in the 1630s, though this would be surprising given the distance of over 20 miles. However, a William and Amy did have a daughter Anne baptised in Faversham in 1634, before a William and an Amy were buried that year - presumably Anne's parents. It would seem therefore that the William buried in Faversham can be excluded as Joan's husband. A 'pater familias' (head of household) William Langford was buried in Sellindge also in 1634. Could he be Joan's husband?
The timing is unfortunate; the Civil Wars and following interregnum have led to parish registers lost or with omissions, which may hide this William's family if they remained in Sellindge or nearby.
Langford is not a common name and could be a mis-recording of a much more common name, Langfeild.
A William Langfeild, a mason so old enough to be working, was buried in Brabourne in 1641. He was probably the William baptised in Brabourne in 1626, or his father, shown in the baptism register as also called William, but the mother was not named. Looking at other baptisms there were children of William baptised from 1623, with gaps suggesting they were all of the same William. No mother was named until the last two in 1636 and 1638, when the mother was named as Dorathie. A widow Dorathie Langfeild married in Brabourne in 1643, almost certainly William's widow, so he can be ruled out as Joan's previous husband.
It may be that there is no record of Joan's husband William's burial as he could easily have died at sea.
However, as well as looking for Joan's marriage to William and William's burial I have also looked for baptisms of any children. None found that could be theirs (looking for a father's name of William or variants, and any beginning Wi or Gu). I did not restrict them to those where the mother was named as Joan, as so many PRs did not include the mother's name at this time. I did, though, look for any with a mother's name of Joan in case it was given but William unreadble or missing.
Whilst the absence of any baptism records could be due to their being no children of the marrige, and William could have died at sea, the chance of their being no marriage record, no burial for William AND no baptisms of any children seems slim, unless they were in a parish whose PRs don't survive (for the relevant period) or haven't been indexed by FMP. The survival of so many ATs and BTs means it is likely events will come to light in time, but without clues as to where to look it is difficult to search. There are no baptisms of William Langford / Langfeilds etc. that might be Joan's husband to give a clue as to where they might have lived together.
