I'm a little surprised as most closely related Goathams around this time seem to be yeomen or husbandmen but I have seen the actual allegation (microfilm of) not just Cowper's summary, and it does definitely say weaver.

Occupation 1677 Herne, Kent, England Yeoman - A George Gotham, yeoman of Herne, was shown as bonding in a marriage licence in 1677 (marr of Robert Lovewell to a widow Elizabeth Long, p 370). Although George was described as a weaver when he married I'm guessing it was this George, despite his now being described as a yeoman.
"Lovewell, Robert, of Herne, husb., widr., and Eliz. Long, s. p., w. At S. M. Bredin, Cant. Geo. Gotham of Heme, yeom., bonds. Sept. 28, 1677. See Lovell."
Elizabeth was probably George's sister, her maiden name being Elizabeth Goatham.
Similarly, I guess it was this George, but could have been his father, who entered into a contract with the feoffees of Whitstable regarding Bushy Close, Herne in 1667.

George sold land as follows:
a piece of land, called Bushy close, in Herne, containing three acres, let at the yearly rent of 1l. 16s. which was purchased of George Goatham, for the clothing of such of the poor as the churchwardens should think fit. Total of all the above charities, 80l. 13s. yearly value. All which premises were in 1783 vested in ten feoffees.

The transaction referred to above took place in 1667, and the documentation is held in the Canterbury Cathedral Archives - I plan to look at it on a future visit.
This description of the transaction suggests it was bought by rather than from George Goatham!Had George a previous wife?
There was a George who with one Frances had a daughter Katherine in Dover on 11 Mar 1637/8 - this George or another?
If it was an earlier marriage of this George then it may be that if I have merged two Georges the younger was the son of George and his first wife Frances rather than of George and Joan.
