    Notes
    • (Research):A Daniel Rose marr Elizabeth Saddleton on 9 5 1739 in Kingston.
Could easily be parents of Richard.
I believe not all Kingston BM entries are on the IGI so could be bapt in Kingston.

What follows is some possibilities based on the IGI - I haven't yet worked out which parishes in the area are not on the IGI, nor, although I have some KFHS CDs, looked at those i.e. there could be equally or more likely ancestors on those. I also don't know which PRs in the area have not survived, or what the BTs are like in filling in any such gaps

Three Richard Roses on the IGI born in Kent in the period 1730 - 1755, viz.

Richard ba 1752 Pluckley - about 25 miles - son of Daniel and Jane. A bit far but see above - link between a Daniel and Kingston.

Richard ba 1735 Goodnestone by Sandwich - about 7 miles - son of Amborse and Anna.
      - pos, esp as an Ambrose Rose later marr in Barham
(But although an Ambrose Rose (yeoman, aged 22) marr in Barham in 1765 there is no sign of Ambrose and Anna having a son Ambrose on the IGI, just Richard and daus Anne and Mary. Another Ambrose and his wife Sarah did have a son Ambrose ba 1734 in Monkton 13 miles from Barham)

Richard ba 1744 Paddlesworth (near Folkestone) - about 9 miles from K - son of Henry and Elizabeth
      - pos - most likely of the IGI 3, esp as Richard called a son Henry AND a Richard, prob this one, appears from age in burial register to have been born c 1743 / 4 (age 1 year out)

Only other child for this (Paddlesworth) couple on the IGI is a Mary ba 1740.
A Henry Rose marr 2 10 1739 or 40 - 4 IGI entries, 2 say 39, 2 40; 3 say at Swingfield  (would make sense for this couple, near Paddlesworth, between it and Barham / Kingston), the other miles away at Westbere; one gives Eliz surname as Lawkins, other 3 as Sawkins!
Quite a few Sawkins entries in Swingfield - I think that's the correct sp
Looking for a birth of an Eliz Sawkins in right period (1703-23), I find two in Kent, with only one more in the whole of England (in Westminster). Kent ones are in Canterbury and Kingston, both 1713. Given that I am looking for someone whose son marr in Kingston this has to be the most likely - also much nearer to Paddlesworth.

Married 2 Oct 1739  St. Peter’s Church, Swingfield, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • ** Please see notes under "son" Richard for other potential candidates to be the parents of the Richard who marr Margaret Baker. **

From IGI entry, but 4 entries and they are vary about yr (1739 or 40), place (Swingfield or Westbere) and Eliz surname (Sawkins or Lawkins)
Almost certainly Sawkins (others nearby, surname Lawkins doesn't seem to exist); prob 1739 as dau ba 1740; Sawkins families in both areas - so location could be either, 3 to 1 for Swingfield which may make it more likely.

Another IGI entry shows a date of 7 Feb - this was a Sunday in 1773 and I think a date when the banns were read

PR entry now seen - shows Richard Rose otp and Margaret Baker otp [no marital status shown] marr by banns; both made their mark; witnesses were Richard Baker (made his mark) and Richard White (signed)
