    Settlement Certificate
    • Harrietsham received a settlement certificate from Broomfield, dated 12 June 1725, in which Broomfield accepted James Carter, wife Elizabeth and three children as being legally settled in Broomfield.  (reference  P173/13/1-2, doc. no. 49; I have not yet seen the cert, only the KFHS index on CD 11)
Died 1729  (probably), Broomfield, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location

    • KFHS transcript (CD19)
Register entry shows the family were of Broomfield
Nothing to confirm this James, and the family appear to have been living in Harrietsham in 1725, but I think it was probably this James.
    Notes
    • "Of Leeds" when he married but although there were Carter families in Leeds at around the time James was born, no sign of a baptism for him there (looking at the KFHS transcripts, CD 16).

Possibly from Broomfield as that was where he was legally settled in 1725, but he may have acquired the right to be settled there after his birth.

I doubt if someone who needing removing left a will, but there are several Carter wills of people who were of Headcorn, Bearsted or Leeds (both before and after 1677)
