Family John FORD, b. Abt 1745, d. May 1802, Stoke Fleming, Devon, England (Age ~ 57 years) Banns of marriage 21 Apr 1771 to 5 May 1771 St. Peter’s Church, Stoke Fleming, Devon, England [4] Married 28 May 1771 St. Peter’s Church, Stoke Fleming, Devon, England [5] - There were 2 couples called John and Susanna Ford having children baptised in Stoke Fleming at the same time.
In 1768 miller John Ford married Susanna Ford of Ermington.
In 1771 cordwainer John Ford married Susanna Ford 'otp'.
They appear to have only had 4 children between them.
In 1773 a Grace and a John Ford, both children of 'John and Susanna' were baptised. One child must have been a child of each but I don't know which.
In 1775 a Susanna was baptised, with another in 1778. There was no burial of a Susanna in Stoke Fleming between the 2 dates so I think each couple had one. The 1778 PR entry shows that the father was John the miller, so presumably the Susanna baptised in 1775 was the daughter of John the cordwainer.
My ancestor Susanna who was one of these was consistently shown as aged 66 at death on her death certificate, her gravestone and the burial register entry. It would appear, therefore, that she was the daughter of John the cordwainer.
The 2 fathers called John were probably those buried in Stoke Fleming in 1812 (baptized 1741), and in 1802 (age given as 57, implying born 1744 or 5, but no baptism to fit in Stoke Fleming Blackawton).
The one who died in 1812 left a will, and the Inland Revenue copy survives at the Devon Heritage Centre. I have seen this and it was that of John the miller, so 'my' John probably died in 1802.
