Richard GOATHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Richard GOATHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 29 Nov 1676 St. Laurence’s Church, St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 8 Oct 2014):
"Goattam - Richard son of Jo & Margaret Goattam was bap the 29 November" - under heading 'Christenings 1676'
Gender Male Occupation 1701 Cooper - At the time of his marriage
Residence 5 May 1702 Wingham, Kent, England
- In the Canterbury Cathedral Archives is a settlement certificate for a Richard Gotham dated 5 May 1702 - presumably this Richard. It is between St. Mary's Parish, Wingham (amongst whose records the certificate is held) and St Mary Magdalene, Canterbury. It shows that the latter parish were acknowledging that it was Richard's place of legal settlement.
Presumably he was living and working in Wingham at the time, but Wingham wanted to be able to return him to Canterbury should fortune not favour him and he be in need of assistance from parish overseers.
Residence 1715 Parish of St. Peter, Canterbury, Kent, England
- At the time of his death (in burial register)
Buried 7 Jul 1715 St. Mary Northgate Church, Canterbury, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 2 Aug 2016)
"July 7 - Richard Gotham of the Parish of St. Peter." - under heading '1715 Burials'
Siblings3 brothers and 1 sister Patriarch & Matriarch
GOATHAM, d. Yes, date unknown (3 x Great Grandfather)
Thamsine PHILPOTT, bur. 8 Jun 1676, St. Laurence’s Church, St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England
(Grandmother)
Notes - No evidence found of Richard remaining on Thanet, or of a Richard born in Canterbury - hence it seems highly probable that it was the Richard baptised in St Lawrence who was buried in Canterbury especially as the marriage licence shows Richard as of St Lawrence but Jane as of Canterbury.
