    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 18 Nov 2019)
"[Aprill] 9 - John Goatom Marriner" - under heading '1690 Burialls'
The date given here is a guess based on the date in the register, and considering the small conflict between the date of death and of burial as recorded in the PR. It might seem that the burial register is most likely to be right, especially as the burials are all in date order, with about one a day, so if entered into the register at the time must be correct or nearly so. However, the Master's Log for the Experiment shows that it was off Wexford around the 7 April, but by 27 anchored off Hyle Point (now Hoylake), i.e. close to Liverpool, where it is reasonable to think John's body could have beem taken for burial. It seems probable, therefore, that the burial register was written up at a later date from notes, and an error made - most likely the burial was 29 April.
Grant of Administration 27 Oct 1690  Prerogative Court of Canterbury, Lambeth, Surrey, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Under heading for admons. granted in 'Oct Ano Dm: 1690':
"Johes Gotham vicisimo Septimo die Em[anavi]t Com[missi]o Johanni
Gotham patri naturali et l[egi]timo Johannis
Gotham nuper de Ramsgate in Com[itatu] Cantii
Sed in Nave the Resolucon posti?? Nave erat
the Experiment superalto Mari apud Liverpool
in Com Lancastria Cælibis Def[unc]ti H[ab]entis
&c Ad Administrand[um] bona juria et Credita
      dicti def[unc]ti de bene &c Jurat[o]"
      which translates something like:
"John Gotham On the twenty seventh day issued forth a commission to license John
Gotham the natural and lawful [i.e. biological and legitimate] father of John
Gotham late of Ramsgate in the County of Kent
But in the ship the Resolucon afterwards the ship was
the Experiment well out of sight of land in the sea [high above the sea] at Liverpool
in the county of Lancashire the deceased being a bachelor
and to administer the goods rights and credits
of the said deceased he having been sworn etc. well etc."
['alto' in reference to the sea usually means out of sight of land, according to Collins Little Gem Dictionary, 1957 edn.]
      (TNA ref: PROB 6/66 f.171)

Seems clearly this John - the only one it could have been I know of, i.e. for whom I don't have a death and wouldn't have been impossibly old. In addition, being described as of Ramsgate fits - Ramsgate was in the parish of St. Lawrence in Thanet, where this John was baptised and where his parents still lived. Finally, admon. was granted to his  father, John - this John's father was John and was still living.
