    • Two deaths in the PRs of bachelor Michael Goathams are recorded, in 1751 and 1753; I am assuming these are this Michael and Michael bapt abt 1728/9, son of Michael - the only 2 young Michael's, judging from the PRs.
The 1751 burial gives the age as 24. Giving an age in this register at this date was not common, it may have been included here in order to distinguish him from the other young Michael, and / or because he was a brother-in-law of the Parish Clerk who was making the register entries at this time. If this George was born by 17 Nov  1727 he would have been 24 so it seems most likely to be his; the other Michael would have only been 22 or maybe just 23 by the time of the burial, judging by his baptism.

"George Goatham of the Parish of Whistaple & Jane Stanes of the Parish of Swalclff were both marryed after thrice publication of the Banns. 1720 8:br 6:th"George was "of Whitstable" when they married.
There are two baptisms in Whitstable PRs for children of George and Mary Goatham: a daughter Elizabeth in 1730/31 amd son George in 1741.
The only George who it seemed could be the father was the one baptised in Herne in 1704, son of Thomas and Margaret.
However, there is no evidence of a marriage, nor of a burial for the wife Mary, and the ten year gap between the children is unusual.
Whilst it is clear that Whitstable PRs were not well kept at this time, it seems to be mostly burials that are missing, but George (one of them - probably the husband / father) was buried in Herne, not Whitstable. Wife Mary could have remarried - but that cannot be found either.
Rather than a whole host of missing records etc. it could make more sense if there was an error in the baptism register, if the mother's name of 'Mary' should read 'Jane'. The baptism of daughter Elizabeth would fit neatly into what is otherwise a gap of over 5 years between the known children of George and Jane, whilst that of George fits neatly onto the end. However, in both cases this means that George and Jane would have used the same name 3 times.
