Richard TRANT
Set As Default Person -
Name Richard TRANT Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Frogmore, Devon, England

Gender Male Occupation 1841 Higher Bowden, Sherford, Devon, England
Farmer's Nephew - No occupation shown in the census - but living with and presumably working for his uncle Richard Trant, a yeoman, and his wife (who married late and appear to have had no children of their own).

Yeoman - At the time of his marriage
Residence 1851 Great Orcheton, Modbury, Devon, England
Occupation 1851 Farmer - Shown as of 212 acres in 1851, 220 acres in 1861.
With the family in 1851 were 2 house servants, Susan M. Fogwill from Dartmouth and Maria M. Hodge from Stoke Fleming, both teenagers and two farm labourers, local boy John Rendle, aged 17 (born Modbury) and Samuel Hurrell, aged 19, born Paignton.
The 1861 census showed that Richard was employing 3 labourers and 2 boys. One of the labourers and 2 boys were living with the family - 62 year old shepherd William Blackler (born Ermington), James Weymouth, a 17 year old carter born in Meavy and an 11 year old 'servant', William Lawry(?) born Modbury.
There were also two girls employed as servants, Ann Lee, a 16 year old dairy maid, and 12 year old Ellen Walters, both born Kingston.
(Strangely, the farm workers and 'servants' were all described as 'house servants').
