    • I don't know if Herbert is a relation or not. I have an "In Memoriam" card for him, showing he died aged 28 on Oct 3 1898 and was interred at Ilfracombe.
      Since some of my grandfather's family came from Devon I had thought that this was a relation.
      However, I find that:
      Herbert's mother was from Edinburgh so only his father's side seem potentially related; Herbert's father and grandfather were from Instow, his grandmother was from Little Torrington. I know of no relations from these places and it seems unlikely the connection would be further back.
      I think probably therefore that Herbert was a friend due to his Ealing connection. Perhaps he was in the Boy's Brigade with my gt grandfather? (born in Ealing in 1869, he was still there in 1891)
