Mary Ann INMAN
Set As Default Person -
Name Mary Ann INMAN Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 26 May 1866 Bowling, Yorkshire, England
- GRO ref: INMAN, Mary A q2 1866 Bradford York RD 9b 49; GRO online index shows middle name as Ann and does not show a mother's maiden name, suggesting she was illegitimte
Actual date from 1939 register
Was the man her mother subsequently married, Jonas CAWTHRA, Mary Ann's biological father? Possibly, but I don't think so, though she did name him as such when she married. She married as an Inman rather than taking his surname, and when the birth of each of her children was born their mother's maiden name was given as INMAN. Only the 1881 census gives her surname as CAWTHRA.The 1871 not only gives her surname as INMAN, unlike the rest of the family, but describes her relationship to the head of household [Jonas] as step-daughter. .

Notes - I think this Mary Ann was boarding in Horton in 1891 - as Cawthra (she was Inman in 1881 census, Cawthra in 1891)
There is a Mary Ann Inman marrying in Bradford in 1896 and the age fits - I assume this is the right one.
(Also, 2 of Mary's children have the names James and Martha, i.e. the same as her half-siblings)

(A Mary Ann Inman marr Thomas Pratt in Bradford in 1890, but if it was this one I haven't found them in 1891.)
