    Notes
    • The IGI shows Richard, son of John and Ann bapt 1787 and a marr of John to Mary. Either, both or neither event(s) could refer to this John.
No sign of a burial of Mary in Slapton before the baptism of a child of Ann, and if there were two Johns no sign of a burial or remarriage. Perhaps, though, John and Mary moved away.
Alternatively, Ann and Mary might be one person, with Mary Foale having been accidentally written instead of Ann Foale, but John signed the register - wouldn't he have noticed?

Richard not a name known amongst Hamblings closely related to John, the son of George - does that suggest that John the father was from a different Hamblng family?
A marriage of an Ann that could be John's widow, though, in 1808 was witnessed by George Hamblin, as was the marriage of an Ann that could be that Ann's step-daughter. Looking more widely, though, it appears that George Hamblin was probably the Parish Clerk, so there need be no link between the families for him to be a witness.
