      No children from this marriage with Ellen in the 1891 census, and looking for children with surname HOVEY and mother's maiden name TAPNER suggests there was none.

      Name of father (Charles), and her age at marriage (31, in March), given in marriage registration fit with this Ellen Tapner, as does birthplace given in censuses after marriage - 'Halnaker' or 'Boxgrove' (not inconsistent - Halnaker is a hamlet in Boxgrove parish).

      The other Ellen Tapner very close in age was born in Pagham in 1855 and her father was Charles. (Both Ellens 1st cousins to my ancestor George Court, so size of DNA matches from descendants not significant).

    • It looks like William and Ellen never married, as Ellen was the widow of William's father when they got together.
      In the 1891 census they are correctly shown as 'head of household' and 'step-mother', and as the 1911 census shows they had been married 18 years I am guessing they began living as husband and wife in about 1892.
      The 1911 census shows they had only had one child, and Ellen was clearly too old to have any after that.
