    • From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 30 May 2025), which names his mother as Charlotte Rye, with no father named.
"1851 Feby 23d No. 574. Frederick Charles illegitte Son of Charlotte Rye, abode: Wickhambreux, [father's occupation field left blank], ceremony performed by Charles Thos Plumptre Rector."
I believe Charlotte has to be a mistake. He is with his grandparents in the 1851 census, his grandmother being Charlotte. Given the absence of a father's name I don't believe they were pretending to be Frederick's parents, and in a small rural parish too many people are likely to have known for this to be possible. Although Mary Ann had a sister Charlotte, she was born too late (1842) and I believe had died earlier in 1850.
Hence it seems a simple error - the priest or Parish Clerk mis-remembering, or Charlotte instead of Frederick's mother taking him to be baptised, or maybe asked for the 'mother's name' Mary Ann or perhaps a sibling who was to be a godparent named her mother rather than Frederick's!
