- From the 1851 census, where shown as aged 1 and as the son of George Hyde - which seems to imply also the son of Margaret, as George and Margaret had by this time been married about 7 years.
However, other children who were illegitimate children of Margaret's daughter, Eliza, were subsequently shown also as George's children - and maybe he was the father. If I am right about Margaret's age she could not be his mother.
The others were registered with Eliza's surname, and with no mother's maiden name, implying they were all registered as illegitimate. The one entry I have bought a copy of does not name the father.I have not found an entry for William in the birth registration index, either as a Windsor or a Hyde (not the William whose birth was registered in Aston RD q3 1849 - the mother's maiden name: shows he fits as part of another family).
Until I find evidence otherwise, I will leave William as a child of George and Margaret. He could have been a son of Margaret's daughter Eliza, but he might have been fostered or had some other relationship to William or Margaret.
