I have not found a record of Thomas' baptism. However, there seems to have been only the one family with the surname in Sussex at this time. And there is time for Thomas to have been born soon after the marriage of his suggested parents, before they had another child. Another possibility is that he was their son born before their marriage, but I cannot find a marriage for his as a Rummiger.
Of course, whilst that strongly points to Thomas and John being closely related, it does not mean Thomas was John's son. For example, he could have been a younger son, who moved to the area with John.
Given the typical age at first marriage for men at this time was the late 20s, then Thomas must have been younger than average if he was a son of John and Elizabeth.
