Sarah SEARLE
Set As Default Person -
Name Sarah SEARLE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Female Residence 1741 Staverton, Devon, England
- 'Of Staverton' at the time of her marriage
Died Yes, date unknown Notes - (Research):A James, illegitimate son of Sarah Cleave, was baptised in Widecombe on 11 Sep 1748. I haven't found another Sarah who could have been his mother, and whilst I don't have a death for Joseph before then, neither have I any evidence of his burial at any time, and the accounts suggest he died between 1746-1748.
Against it being this Sarah is that the overseers provided relief for 'Sarah Cleif's Child' in 1748 (maybe later, I have yet to look).
The family appear to have been comfortably off: Joseph had not one but two tenements, with a rateable value greater then most. But if these were held on a lease for 3 lives and Joseph's was the last I guess life might have quickly become difficult for Sarah.
