A Mary Steel was baptized in Knaresborough in 1745, just right to be this Mary - but there is a snag. She was the daughter of Philip and Elizabeth, and a Mary, daughter of Philip was buried in Knareborough in 1766. It seems probable that the burial was of the Mary baptised in 1745. There seem to be no earlier Philip Steels in Knaresborough than the father of Mary (bap 1745), and whilst he did have a son Philip he was not baptised until 1752 so was too young to have had a daughter Mary buried in 1766.
