Family Apphia TURNER, b. Abt 1646, bur. 3 Feb 1709/10, St. Laurence’s Church, St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England
(Age ~ 64 years)
Other Partners: William JENKEN m. 17 Feb 1666/67; Augustine HILLS m. 20 Jan 1675/76Married 1 Dec 1663 St. Margaret’s Church, Canterbury, Kent, England
- Place assumed from marriage licence, though in PRs for both St. Lawrence in Thanet and St. Margaret's, Canterbury.
Also, sometimes an entry is in the parish where the couple lived although the marriage took place in Canterbury. It makes sense that John and Apphia might have married in Canterbury after obtaining a licence there, and the marriage also been recorded in St. Lawrence. It would have made no sense for the marriage to be recorded at St. Margaret's it they had married in St. Lawrence.
In St. Margaret's, Canterbury, PRs:
"John Kinsford of St Larance in tenit & Afia Turner of the same des: 1. 1663"
In St. Lawrence PRs:
"John Kingsford and Apthya Turner was Mared by licins Desember the 1 day"
Marriage License 1 Dec 1663 Canterbury, Kent, England
- From Cowper:
"Kingsford, John, of S. Lawrence in
Thanet, seaman, ba., 23, whose
parents consent, and Apthya Turner,
s. p., v., 17, whose father consents.
At S. Margt., Cant. Dec. 7, 1663.
Note. - This allegation is signed by
Mary Turner, mother of Apthya, who
testified to her husband's consent."
Both registers recording the marriage seem to show it was on 1st Dec, so I think Cowper probably mis-read a 1 as a 7.
