Shows Emily Agnes PEACHEY, daughter of Thomas and Jane Louisa, father a Farmer
Gender Female Education 1871 Scholar - The family had a Governess boarding with them, who was presumably teaching the children. With even the one year old Edith shown as a scholar(!) perhaps she had some responsibility for all of the children, although a nursemaid was also employed.
Education 1881 Scholar Residence 1901 21, Crosby Road South, Seaforth, Lancashire, England - Boarder in the house of schoolmaster Frederick Westlake and his family.
Occupation 1901 Matron - A matron would usually be found in a school or institution, but Emily was boarding with a family. However, the head of the household was a schoolmater, and in the next door house (19 Crosby Road South) was an assistant schoolmaster, Bernard Smith, and 5 scholars. Bernard Smith was (like the scholars) shown as 'boarder', not head, while one of the scholars was shown as nephew as well as boarder. It appears that Frederick Westlake was the head of both households, and no doubt Emily was matron to the scholars at no. 19.
The scholars were aged 13 to 18, 3 were British but one of these was born in Japan and the other two were Spanish.
Occupation 1911 Royal Asylum Of St Anne’s Society, Redhill, Surrey, England Wardrobe keeper - Emily was one of 4 wardrobe keepers, who were amongst the 36 servants and 19 teachers looking after and educating the 300 children in the home at Redhill in 1911.
A history of the society and the homes can be found here on the Children's Homes website.
