Notes - (Research):I wonder if I have combined two people here.
The baptism shows Robert's father as named Thomas, and I don't think that is an error: there is other evidence which shows a Robert fitting into a family where the father was Thomas.
I am also sure that the Robert who married Elizabeth Tomlinson died in 1852, just less than 4 months after the marriage. Not only do the marriage PR entry and burial record shows the same street as the abode (Notte) and the ages almost agree (23 at marriage, 22 at death!) but there is a newspaper article regarding his widow and mother disputing ownership of his goods.
BUT was the Robert who married Elizabeth the same as the one baptised in Holbeton in 1828? - I am less sure of this. The name given as the father of Robert when he married was Robert. That would suggest two separate Roberts. But so far I have no later evidence for the son of Thomas. Thomas did die in 1830, so Robert would have grown up not knowing his father. Did he just make up a name (and possibly occupation) for him?
I also have no earlier evidence for the Robert the son of Robert, unless he were the Robert who was baptised in North Huish in 1832, the illegitimate son of Elisabeth Eastley.
It is more common for illegitimate children to invent a father when they married.
But it is interesting that when a Robert married Elizabeth Tomlinson and died etc. his name was recorded as Eastle or Eastel. Most had by this time become Eastleys; Thomas' family had not. I do think it most likely he was the son of Thomas.
