"William Curtis, Sojourner of the Parish of Highweek
and Mary Anne Eastley of this Parish
were married in this Chapel by Banns with Consent of [blank]
this twenty sixth Day of
July in the Year One thousand eight hundred and thirty five
By me John Bradford, Curate
This Marriage was solemnized between us William Curtis, the mark of + Mary Anne Eastley
In the Presence of William Drew, Mary Frances Curtis
No. 316."
'Chapel' means the event took place in St. Leonard's, in the centre of Newton Abbot, rather than at the Parish Chruch, a little out of the town.
In 1835 St. Leonard's Chapel was rebuilt, in a different location in the town - I'm not sure if an event IN 1835 would have been in the old or new St. Leonard's.
(Mary Ann's widowed step-mother was lodging with William and Mary and their family in 1871, from which I'm sure that the marriage was of this Mary Ann Eastley)
