    • ** Possibly ** Edmund was the Edmund who was living in Plymouth, America by 1638. He is known to have had a wife Joane and a daughter Mary, consistent with ths Edmund. However, both Mary and Joan being very common names for women this could easily be chance. Both this Edmund and the settler are known to have had children with unusual names, but at present none of those known seems to be in common.
This does not rule this Edmund out: his sons Jonathan and Edmond could have died in England, en route, or in America but young with no surviving records referring to them, and the settler's son Ephraim could have been born in America.
However, there were a number of Edmund (or Edward) Tilsons born at a date which could mean one of them was the early settler. A few were born in Norfolk or Yorkshire or elsewhere, but most were in Lincolnshire, including Boston, a county and town with well known links to the early American settlers.
However, this Edmund seems to have had a first cousin (Hercules / Archilaus, son of his uncle William Hills) who tried life in America, another cousin, also named Hercules Hills, who was a non-conformist minister, and in naming a son Jonathan this Edmund may have been indicating his puritan leanings.
