    Separated Between 1901 and 1911 
    • It seems that James and Nancy separated between the time of the 1901 census, where they can be found together, and the 1911 census, by which time Nancy had returned to living with her relations.
      Not only that, but when James joined the army in 1914 he claimed at first to be single (although it came to light he wasn't and his marriage details and Nancy's address were added to his papers), and he named his brother Willam as his next-of-kin.
