  	From the 1851 census where shown as aged 23, and as born in Lamberhurst, as do other censuses. In 1841 she is shown as born in Sussex, other censuses show Lamberhurst, Kent. Lamberhurst is unusual as a parish that crossed the county boundary. Clearly the part of Lamberhurst in which she was living as a domestic servant in 1841 is in Sussex.

  	A lodger, with her 4 surviving children. Shown as married, but her husband was absent. Three children had been born and died since the previous census, Alice, 1862-1865, and twins William and Charles, who did better than many twins as both lived for over a year, but died before reaching their second birthday. I suspect William was not simply absent for work reasons but had left her by this time.

  	In their own house, Esther was now shown as a widow, living with 3 of her children. It was, though, some months before her husband would die.
