Cause: Drowned - From the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette of 22nd December 1849 under the heading Teignmouth:-
"On Thursday last week [13th Dec], as the Abeona, of this port, was sailing out of Plymouth for Lisbon, the mate, Robert Paddon, a native of this place, fell overboard and was drowned, leaving a widow with two young children to deplore their loss."
Another similar report puts the date as 10 Dec., although another states 13th.
The death was not registered, suggesting the body was not recovered.
