    • Apparently not so keen on joining the Royal Navy as his brothers, Walter only joined at the age of 21, though making himself to be a year older. He joined up for a period of 12 years, though was discharged a few months early.
      His character throughout was 'V.G.' ('very good') and he rose in less than a year from Stoker 2nd Class to Stoker, and then in 1899 to Leading Stoker 2nd Class.

      To make matters confusing:
      In the St. Thomas RD of Exeter in Q1 1850 a Selina CASLEY married one Robert William OSBORNE.

      This couple were of similar ages to the Selina and Robert Osborn on this tree, though with different birthplaces, occupation and children. Despite the differences some have muddled these 2 couples.
