- Based on age in death registration, this would seem to be the John W Bardsley who married Amelia:
GRO ref: Bardsley, John Willie q2 1875 Oldham RD 8d 673; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Whittaker (the entry does not include John's middle name but the page number is the same)
The middle name is close to that recorded at death, according to the GRO online index, but it is possible to imagine that an e and s could be muddled. The marriage of Amelia Cooper is shown to be to a John William Bardsley, but shortened forms of names such as Willie are recorded in full on occasions. so that doesn't rule out this John W, but does nothing to add weight to the argument.
Although given the rarity of the surname Bardsley in Stoke RD it seems reasonable to suppose the one who died there was the one who married Amelia, I cannot find him there in the 1939 register, so it could be a John who had moved to the area after 1939 - but I can't find a John W Bardsley with the right year of birth anywhere (there is a John born 1875 in Failsworth, but he fits one born in Prestwich RD, which includes Failsworth, in 1875). It therefore seems probable that this John was the one who married Amelia, who for some reason is not showing up in the 1939 register.

Overall quite a common name, but not in Stoke RD, but there was an Amelia Bardsley of the right age who died in Stoke RD.
