Also, there are other possibilities - did either or both marry with their Christian names in the reverse order, or away from Liverpool, or did they not marry at all?
My main interest was to see if I could find any clue that might confirm that it was their daughter Jessie rather than another Jessie who married Matthew Gotham - * so far I have not been able to do this *
Most of the children shown here are found with William and Alice in the censuses. The one exception is John Coates, whose middle name and match on not just year and qtr of birth registration but page too suggest he was a twin of Peter. There were other births of children with the surname Jones and mother's maiden name Burns in Liverpool that could be children of William and Alice, but I don't think they all were, rather that there was at least one other Jones = Burns couple; I haven't made any attempt to research this (and don't plan to).
