Looking at births registered in Lancashire in 1860-1862, there is only one Alice A Burns:

Family William George JONES, b. Mar Q 1850, Liverpool, Lancashire, England , d. Yes, date unknown Married - Marriage of William and Alice not found - no marriage found of a William Jones to Alice Burns, suggesting that Alice was probably a widow when she married William, no marriage of a William G Jones to an Alice A, suggesting one or both did not use their middle name when they married (not uncommon) and far too many William Jones to an Alice marriages for me to have worked through the possibilities so far (i.e. an earlier marriage of an Alice to someone of the surname under which she married a William Jones, with the death of the first husband before she remarried, etc.) - this is somewhat peripheral to this tree.
Also, there are other possibilities - did either or both marry with their Christian names in the reverse order, or away from Liverpool, or did they not marry at all?
My main interest was to see if I could find any clue that might confirm that it was their daughter Jessie rather than another Jessie who married Matthew Gotham - * so far I have not been able to do this *
Most of the children shown here are found with William and Alice in the censuses. The one exception is John Coates, whose middle name and match on not just year and qtr of birth registration but page too suggest he was a twin of Peter. There were other births of children with the surname Jones and mother's maiden name Burns in Liverpool that could be children of William and Alice, but I don't think they all were, rather that there was at least one other Jones = Burns couple; I haven't made any attempt to research this (and don't plan to).
