Martha SLADDEN
Set As Default Person -
Name Martha SLADDEN Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 14 Jun 1685 St. Mary and St. Eanswythe’s Church, Folkestone, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 15 Jan 2020)
"June the 14th: Martha of Benjamin & Mary Sladden ~ Baptized"
But was she Martha?
There is also an entry a little further down the page:
"? John Bapt: [June] 24 Sarah of Benjamin & Mary Sladden ~ Bapt."
The word / symbol before John is hidden in the image by the centre fold of the register. There is a similar entry by the next line; these may refer to a completely separate entry which had been omitted, or are they corrections to the lines they are by? There is no sign of another couple Benjamin and Mary Sladden who may have been having children around this time. Were they twins - was one baptised privately at home on the 14th due to being sick, and the other well enough to bring to church so baptised on 24th? If 'John' was a correction to the father's name it is strange that Benjamin has not been struck through.
Not clear!
(It would be interesting to see how this has been interpreted in the BTs)
