- From the 1851 census where shown as aged 8. Shown as born Lye in 1861 (as were the whole household) and as Quarry Bank (consistent with Thorns) in 1881.
Possibly GRO ref: GARNER, William q3 1840 Stourbridge RD 18 455; however, GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Rabey, which suggests it is not this William.
Also, this would make him 10 at the time of the 1851 census, where recorded as 8, but as his sister (or half-sister) shown as 6 when should have been 7, and as 15 in 1861 when would have been 17, it is not impossible.
