  	GRO ref: Gilchrist, Eleanor q4 1839 Sth Shields RD 24 118; GRO online index shows age at death as 87 The Union Workhouse in Westoe sub-district of the South Shields Union district. Looking at the location of Westoe in relation to South Shields it seemed unlikely that the main South Shields Union Workhouse in German Street (now Ocean Road) would have been in Westoe sub district, where it is said Eleanor died. However, looking at the parishes as in 1851 the workhouse was then in St. Stephen's Parish, close to Westoe parish, and as St. Stephen's was only created in 1848 it seems likely that Westoe sub-district did cover that area.
