"Nov 21 No. 28, Leonard, parents Thomas & Eliza, surname: Mountford, abode: 68 Leonard St, father a Potter, ceremony performed by G. B. Brindley" with in left margin 'St. W' and under heading 'Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Sneyd ... One Thousand eight Hundred and ninety nine'
A mission church of St. Werburgh opened in 1895, and this was presumably what 'St W' stands for; those entries not so marked (the majority) were presumably in the Parish Chruch of Holy Trinity.
A larger building for St. Werburgh's was needed by 1953 (by then a parish in its own right), so the current St. Werburgh's is not where Leonard would have been baptised. However, Holt Trinity Church was damaged through mining subsidence in 1956 and moved to the building which had been St. Werburgh's, which was reconsecrated as Holy Trinity!
So, it was in the building now called Holy Trinity that Leonard was baptised!

    • Although there were other Leonard Mountfords in the area of a similar age, only one was born in 1899, so assuming date in the 1939 register is correct that shows that it was this Leonard who married Florence Dutton.
