Jun Q 1908, Wolstanton Reg Dist, Staffordshire, England (Age ~ 75 years) (Grandmother) Notes - (Research):Some Ancestry trees show Thomas as having died in WW1 (on 24 Aug 1914 - this T Mountford). However, looking at the military records it seems clear that was one of the many other Thomas Mountfords - and not even one of the others from the Potteries.
There was a Thomas Mountford, born Congleton, Cheshire and living with his wife Mary Jane in Biddulph, Staffordshire at the time of the 1911 census and when he enlisted. The data from 'UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 database' on Ancestry shows that it was this Thomas who died in 1914, and the original document regarding soldiers' effects is in agreement, showing that the Thomas who died on 24 Aug 1914 left a widow Mary Jane. That Thomas had previously served in the army, transferring to the reserve around the time of his marriage in 1907, which no doubt explains how he came to be abroad so early in WW1.
