Thomas SLADDEN
Set As Default Person -
Name Thomas SLADDEN Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1610 - From age on his marriage licence
Baptised 15 Apr 1610 St. Mary the Virgin’s Church, Selling, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 17 Jan 2020)
"John/Thomas Sladen sonne of Richarde Sladen was baptised the xvth day of Aprill."
Gender Male Misc. From 1635 to 1651 A peripatetic existence - At marriage Thomas was described as a yeoman or Walmer and Mary was a yeoman's daughter, also of Walmer. We might have expected them to remain in Walmer for the rest of their lives, or possibly to move to some other parish not too many miles distant and settle down there, not least because prior to marriage Thomas might have been working with his father, but the farm may not have been sufficient to support two families. If they had moved away an inheritance, such as when Thomas' father died, could have led to moving to a larger farm, possibly a return to Walmer. What we actually find is quite different: a little over 9 months after the wedding Thomas and Mary's firstborn was baptised in Walmer, but the subsequent 4 children, baptised in the successive even numbered year, were all baptised in different parishes.
