Residence 1881 Etruria Vale Lock House, Shelton, Staffordshire, England
Occupation From 1888 to 1901 Shoulder of Mutton, Fulford, Staffordshire, England
Pubican - Publican of the 'Shoulder of Mutton' in Fulford by the time the 1888 Directory was compiled; shown as a publican in Fulford Villlage at the time of the 1901 census; although the pub was not named in the census I think it most likely the same one.
He was shown as a joiner in the 1891 census; at the time this was taken he and his wife were visiting relations in Liverpool and I think was most likely a mistake by the ennumerator who was very unlikely to have known him.
Visiting 1891 2, Sheil Road, West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
- In Liverpool at the time of the 1891 census, with William Follows and his wife Elizabeth. William and Elizabeth had married in 1865, with Elizabeth's surname then being Shaw, i.e. the same as that of Thomas's wife Ann, and like Ann she was born in Hanley, so I guess Elizabeth was a sister of Ann (I have not yet attempted to check this)
Residence 1901 Fulford Village, Fulford, Staffordshire, England
Died Jun Q 1910 Stoke on Trent Reg Dist, Staffordshire, England
- In 1901 census but wife a widow in 1911

Father John GOTHAM, bap. 2 Aug 1801, St. Oswald's Church, Hinstock, Shropshire, England
, d. 24 Dec 1877, Trent and Mersey Canal, Etruria, Staffordshire, England
(Age ~ 76 years)
Other Partners: Hannah TILL m. 27 Mar 1826Mother Mary BRAIN, b. Abt 1806, Moddershall, Staffordshire, England
, d. 9 Apr 1875, Stone Reg Dist, Staffordshire, England
(Age ~ 69 years) Married 5 Oct 1835 St. Michael and St. Wulfad’s Church, Stone, Staffordshire, England
- The age and birthplace in the censuses clearly show that the John who was married to Mary was the one baptised in Hinstock in 1801.
A William fitting the one born to John and Hannah was with Mary at the time of the 1841 census, as well as other children born before his marriage to Mary, so it seems fairly safe to assume he had previously been married to Hannah, and the other earlier children were theirs.

On many 1911 census forms the no. of children was wrongly filled in for widows; unfortunately that was not the case with Ann.
